We are studying intracellular trafficking using mammalian cells. During my research in Japan, France, and the United States, I found that ArfGAP proteins, which were originally thought to simply inhibit membrane trafficking, can actively regulate cargo sorting and promote intracellular transport. our current research focuses on understanding how diverse exosome populations are generated and whether their formation pathways can be classified based on the functions of ArfGAP proteins.
More recently, we have become interested in developing technologies to artificially control intracellular cargoes and organelles. By combining cell biology with materials science and physics, we aim to establish the emerging field of organelle engineering, where organelles can be manipulated using magnetic nanoparticles, external magnetic fields, and physical energies such as plasma.
