It is the people of Asia, including Japan, who have a culture of eating fish, who recognize that seafood as food is not a substitute for land animals, but a resource that contains superior protein, lipids, and other useful resources. The 21st century will be an era in which we will move away from resource management and utilization within our own countries and toward international cooperation. Japan has an obligation to lead the Asian network based on the fisheries research it has cultivated thus far. Iwate University's fisheries research will play a central role in this.
