We have found a unique late-bolting genetic resources and released a breeding material 'Tsukena Chukan Bohon Nou 2 Gou'.
Using this unique late bolting characteristics, we have analysed a mechanism of BrFLC with DNA markers. we are going to release late bolting F1 cultivars of Chinese cabbage near future. -

Cookinng tomato or tomato for cooking is not popular in Japan because tomatoes in Japan are bred and cultivated mainly for salad. We are trying to increase the consumption of tomato for cooking using newly released determinate-type early maturing tomato cultivar 'SUZUKOMA'.

Tomatoes (cherry tomatoes) are selfu-polinated plants and easy to cross-polinate. They are verypopular among everyone and include well known wide range of genetic diversity like fruit size and fruit colors. We are now breeding tomato lines suitable for genetics study in elementary ~ senior high schools.

Distribution of air temperature in the greenhouses with different ridge-roof inclinations

We developed a greenhouse with an inclined-ridge roof designed to accelerate the movement of rising air across the roof slope, and to enhance its ventilation ability. The distributions of air temperatures of 3 m wide and 10.8 m long plastic greenhouses with different ridge-roof inclinations (horizontal ridges, inclined-ridge of 2.7°, 5.3° or 7.9°) were investigated. The upper parts of the two gable-ends on each greenhouse were opened for ventilation. The average air temperature was the highest in the greenhouses with horizontal ridges, and gradually decreased as the ridge inclination increased. An air temperature gradient was clearly observed along the long axis in the inclined-ridge greenhouses; the air temperature was lower on the lower roof side. This temperature gradient is probably due to air movement from the lower to the higher-roof side caused by natural ventilation, which can be enhanced by the ridge inclination.

「つけな中間母本農2号」が持つ開花抑制遺伝子BrFLC2・同3を導入したハクサイ試交F1を育成した。これらは既存品種が早期抽だいして商品化率がごく低くなる早春播きの無加温栽培において極晩抽性を発揮し、90%以上の高い商品化率を得ることができた。

Boiled green leaves are bleached when exposed to light. To reduce this bleaching, the appearance and chemical components in 48 spinach cultivars with very deep green leaves were studied under different cultivation conditions. We observed large varietal difference in the growth rate, chlorophyll and ascorbic acid contents, and Brix.

Poor seedling establishment is a major problem for Early-Winter Direct-Sowing cultivation in rice. We examined the effects of seed coating with three materials (iron, calcium peroxide, starch) on the seedling establishment. The seedling establishment rate was only 1~3% in the control without seed coating in both 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 seasons in Iwate Prefecture. Only the coating with iron showed a significant increase in the seedling establishment rate, that is, 24% in the 2016/2017 season and 11~30% in the 2017/2018 season. Significant improvement of seedling establishment by seed coating with iron was confirmed similarly in additional four Prefectures (Hokkaido, Aomori, Akita and Mie) in 2017/2018 season. We concluded that the seed coating with iron is a promising methodology for improving seedling establishment for Early-Winter Direct-Sowing cultivation in rice.
